ROLE SUMMARY: 

The Risk Controls & Compliance (RCC) Manager & Office Manager (OM) plays a dual leadership role, responsible for driving Berkadia’s business continuity and disaster recovery programs, crisis management initiatives, physical security posture, enterprise risk management (ERM) framework, internal controls environment, and compliance strategies while also serving as on-site leadership at the Bengaluru office.

As part of the India RCC team, the individual will work closely with India and U.S. stakeholders to execute risk and compliance initiatives, build a culture of proactive governance, and lead operational excellence at Bengaluru Office in alignment with global strategies.

In the capacity of Office Manager, the individual is also responsible for representing the leadership on-site, collaborating with HR, administration, training, and business teams to drive employee engagement, infrastructure readiness, and cross-functional alignment to global strategies set by Berkadia’s leadership team.

 

 

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

I Business Operations & Leadership

  • Liaising regularly with key business partners to understand business expectations, needs, concerns related to local execution of our global strategies.
  • Driving rapid and consistent operational improvements to ensure on-time delivery in full, to quality standards, to the customers’ expectations, and with the most effective use of our resources
  • Performing root cause analysis on issues, creating solutions to items identified, and preventing recurring of identified issues
  • Leading the Subject Matter Experts to collaborate with business partners and training program managers to that cater to business needs and successfully implement corporate initiatives and development programs.
  • Establishing and monitoring business metrics, taking corrective action where necessary, and ensuring delivery of KPIs including day to day service levels
  • Coaching and mentoring Direct Reports and their teams to effectively implement leadership strategies and Berkadia’s culture, including, growth mindset, innovation, and challenging the status quo.
  • Effective team leadership and communication; managing, monitoring, and coaching line managers through ongoing formal and informal communication and ensuring that information is communicated throughout the division.
  • Helping the team overcome hurdles, and encouraging them to try new ideas, suggest process and technology improvements for the process.
  • Resolving conflicts and managing divergent perspectives across stakeholder groups. Using judgment to devise and apply new solutions.
  • Planning and/or monitoring the day-to-day functioning of business to ensure smooth performance.
  • Leveraging the skills and commitment of team members to accomplish stretch goals and objectives.
  • Evaluating the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and applying improvements on an ongoing basis; proposing enhancements to India and U.S. stakeholders and owning their satisfactory execution.
  • Creating the culture of accountability, motivating direct reports and employees to challenge the status quo to deliver better results timely.

 

II Risk Controls & Compliance

  1. Risk and Governance
  • Oversee multi-site safety and security operations to ensure effectiveness and compliance across all offices, while driving proactive risk mitigation and incident prevention initiatives.
  • Monitor and manage the crisis management tool for optimal usage to ensure real time visibility and rapid response to incidents. Coordinate timely escalations and ensure adherence to crisis communication protocols.
  • Build a resilient Emergency Response Team through talent development, competency building, and implementing comprehensive training initiatives for crisis readiness.
  • Conduct tabletop exercises, drills and readiness assessment to strength crisis preparedness and organizational resilience.

 

  1. Risk Management
  • Identify, assess, and monitor key risks across the organization (operational, financial, reputational, strategic, regulatory, and cybersecurity).
  • Implement enterprise risk management frameworks and methodologies.
  • Facilitate periodic risk assessments and risk appetite reviews.
  1. Internal Controls
  • Evaluate and assess internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure process integrity.
  • Implement control self-assessments and control testing exercises.
  • Identify control gaps and oversee remediation activities.
  • Support internal and external audit teams during reviews.
  1. Compliance
  • Monitor compliance with laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Implement compliance programs, training, and awareness campaigns.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, prepare filings, and respond to regulatory inquiries.
  • Stay updated on new and emerging regulatory developments and ensure timely implementation.

 

  1. Reporting
  • Report risk and compliance metrics to RCC
  • Maintain policies and procedures related to risk, compliance, and control activities.
  • Promote a strong compliance and risk culture throughout the organization.
  1. Incident and Issue Management
  • Investigate Code of Conduct violations and other incidents under the responsibility of RCC and support HR, Legal matters on need basics.
  • Coordinate root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Maintain incident logs and ensure lessons learned are institutionalized.

 

III. Office Manager (Bengaluru) 

This is proposed JD for Office Manager, that establishes reporting lines, collaboration expectations, and decision-making boundaries—especially under the Operations Head, Administrative Head, and India Leadership Team (ILT).

Role Purpose:

The Office Manager is responsible for ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning of the site office and serving as the voice of employees in addition to fulfilling their primary operational role for which they are hired.

This role of Office Manager will report to the Operations Head (India or US) for all core operational requirements and will also have reporting to Site Director – India for all the administrative matters and day to day operation of the site.

  • Strategic Alignment: India Leadership Team (ILT)

    The Office Manager does not take independent strategic decisions but recommends, coordinates, and executes decisions approved by the ILT.

    Key Responsibility Pillars:

    A. Site Operations Management
       •   Ensure daily functioning of the site: workspace readiness, seating, IT coordination, vendor support, safety, and compliance.
       •   Resolve operational issues in coordination with Admin, IT, and Facilities teams.
       •   Maintain site risk logs and escalate issues to Ops Head and Admin Head when needed.

Decision Model:
   •   Executes independently: Day-to-day operational fixes, vendor follow-ups, floor coordination.
   •   Escalates / seeks approval: Budget-related items, infrastructure changes, policy exceptions.

B. Employee Experience & Communication
   •   Maintain strong employee connect through floor presence and open communication channels.
   •   Surface the “voice of employees” to the India HR leadership and ILT.
   •   Communicate key decisions, updates, and policies approved by Leadership Team to employees.

Decision Model:
   •   Executes independently: Communication, feedback loops, engagement coordination.
   •   Collaborates with ILT: Handling sensitive escalations, changes in office policies, employee-impacting decisions.

C. Collaboration With Business Leaders:
   •   Partner with business leaders who have teams in the site to ensure smooth operations and remove bottlenecks.
   •   Provide site updates, risks, and support requirements proactively.
   •   Ensure continuity of business operations through coordinated problem-solving.

Decision Model:
   •   Executes independently: Cross-functional coordination and issue resolution.
   •   Collaborates with ILT / Ops Head: Any changes impacting business operations or site-wide functioning.

D. Culture & Engagement Support:
   •   Support HR and Engagement teams in planning and delivering culture-building activities.
   •   Facilitate local events, new hire onboarding, and employee participation.

Decision Model:
   •   Executes independently: Engagement logistics and coordination.
   •   Collaborates with ILT: Events requiring budget, external vendors, or policy changes.

Skills & Competencies

Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting/risk management, or related business field (mandatory).

Experience: Minimum 10+ years of work experience, with at least:

  • 5 years in Financial Services or risk/compliance-heavy industries
  • 5 years of experience in people management roles
  • Industry Exposure: Prior exposure to the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) industry is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills; ability to drive decisions using metrics.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written); excellent business communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience, especially with US-based partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams across geographies and time zones.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics and ability to manage via metrics; ability to analyse base data and derive own insights to validate strategies and initiatives.
  • Willingness and ability to learn technology tools and drive usage and adoption of tools within teams.
  • Ability to work on numerous key initiatives simultaneously while prioritizing tasks to meet business and stakeholder needs.
