Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Assistant Vice President – FHA Construction, Rene Coronado, to learn more about his role at Berkadia, what part of his role he is most passionate about, and what excites him most about the commercial real estate industry.
Describe your role at Berkadia.
In my role, I oversee Berkadia’s FHA Construction platform, which includes Construction Loan Specialists and Senior Closers. I work closely with borrowers, contractors, architects, title companies, HUD, and Mortgage Bankers to manage daily operations and requests related to all 221(D)(4)/Heavy 223(F) loans. My responsibilities encompass handling approvals on construction draws, change orders, escrow advances, permissions to occupy, and portfolio reporting.
What part of your role are you most passionate about?
How dynamic it is! I get to take on many roles daily; approving requests/wires, attending site inspections, resolving construction disputes, working on the Rabbet platform, and most importantly leading my team.
What excites you most about commercial real estate?
What excites me most about commercial real estate is its challenges and complexities. Every day brings new learning opportunities, which keep me mentally sharp and continuously engaged.
What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself coming into the commercial real estate industry and what’s the best advice you’ve received
I would stress the importance of patience and the value of relationship building in this industry. The best advice I’ve received is to always keep building your tool belt of skills!
When you’re not helping Berkadia move the industry forward, how do you spend your time?
I’ve taken up golf over the past year and play as much as I can—I’m completely hooked! Additionally, I cherish spending time with my family. We enjoy cheering for all Dallas sports, including the Cowboys, Mavs, and Rangers!
How has your time at Berkadia helped to accelerate your personal and professional development?
My time at Berkadia has greatly accelerated my personal and professional development, largely due to my managers, Ryan Duff and Lisa Maloney. Their trust in granting me opportunities to showcase my managerial skills has allowed me to make meaningful contributions to our platform and grow significantly within the industry.

I love how Berkadia always takes the long view and strives to be the best in the industry. It was one of the main factors in my decision to come to work here.
